The City of Rossland is a beautiful mountain town nestled high in the Monashee Mountains.  The city is of the Canada’s highest in elevation and as such has a reputation for world class skiing.  The population is approximately 3,500 people and it has a “small town” feel.  In 1897 The LeRoi mine was the claim that started the gold rush in Rossland and people flocked to the city in search of Gold.   Rossland is rich in history and its beautiful homes and landscapes showcase it beautifully.  There are 2 elementary schools (K-7) in Rossland, one French and one English. There is also one independent secondary school (8-12).  Recreation is abundant in Rossland.  In the winter months locals enjoy skiing the slopes at Red Mountain, cross country skiing at Black Jack Ski Club, skating at the outdoor rink, or snowshoeing the many trails.  There is no shortage of activities in the summer either.  Golfing at Redstone Golf Course, swimming at the outdoor pool, Frisbee Golf at Black Jack, biking at one of the 2 available bike parks or hiking or biking the various trails are just a few favorite past times.  Rossland hosts 2 community events every year.  Every September, the Golden City Days celebration takes place.  The city celebrates its rich heritage and brings the community together with street vendors, children’s games, horseback rides, stage entertainment and a parade.  In January, the Winter Carnival offers live music festival, epic bobsled races, outdoor beer gardens, a variety show and so much more.  The tradition has been kept alive since 1898.  The Rossland Arena features one indoor ice surface and a curling rink.  The Miner’s Hall was built in 1898 and served as the central organization point for the Miners Union.  Today, the building still stands and is used for dances, theatrical productions (Gold Fever Follies), and gatherings.  The Rossland Light Opera Players assembled in 1951, and is believed to be the oldest amateur musical theatre group in the Kootenays, presenting a major musical annually.  The Rossland Museum is the perfect place to visit to learn all there is to know about Rossland and its rich history.

Red Mountain Resort offers 3,850 of pristine putting it in the Top 10, size-wise and #1 for Most Acres Per Skier in North America.  There are 3 summits with a total of 119 marked runs and 8 lifts.  Red is known for its light dry powder and offers terrain for skiers of all abilities.  Red Mountain Village is located at the base of Red Mountain.  Here you will find many ski-in/ski-out condos, vacation homes, townhouses and cabins.  Big Red Cats, the world’s largest Cat Skiing Operation is located at Red Mountain as well.
