The City of Trail is a thriving community that consists of many subdivisions/neighborhoods, mainly Columbia Heights, East Trail, Sunningdale, Miral Heights, Glenmerry and Waneta.

One of the many things that Trail is most noted for is the Teck Resources, the region’s largest employer.  Teck Trail Operations is a large zinc and lead smelting plant that has been in operation since 1896.  The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is the largest diagnostic and acute care facility in the entire Kootenay region.  The Hospital has recently undergone a large upgrade/expansion to the Emergency Department.  The Trail Regional Airport is home to Pacific Coastal Airlines.  The airline offers twice daily flights to Vancouver/Victoria.  In 2017, the airport underwent a large expansion and a brand new airport terminal building was built.  Trail Riverfront Centre, located in downtown Trail, was built in 2018 and houses the Trail Museum and Archives, the Public Library and the Trail Visitor Centre.

Hockey and Curling have been long time community sports in Trail.  The Trail Smoke Eaters, a Junior A Hockey Team, play on the ice at the Trail Memorial Centre.  Here you will also find 2 ice rinks, the curling rink, a gymnasium and racquetball and squash courts.

Built in 1996, the Trail Aquatic Centre is the largest aquatic centre and multi-sport facility between Kelowna and Cranbrook.  Amenities here include 2 pools, hot tub, slide, steam room, and fitness centre.

The Mighty Columbia River flows through the city and Gyro Park is the perfect place to visit the public beach.  Many community events happen at Gyro, and it has something to offer everyone.  A brand new playground was built in 2020 and is located right next to the spray park.  The all wheel skate park is also brand new and features amenities useable to people of all ages.

Every May, the town celebrates Silver City Days, a midway and outdoor food fair.  The weekend is jam packed full of activities from fireworks to carnival rides to a parade.  Trail is also home to the one of the longest suspension bridges in North America.  Spanning 1,000 feet from landing to landing, the Columbia River Skywalk was opened in 2016 and provides a crossing from downtown Trail to East Trail.
